Facebook the Social Desktop
Do you realize that Facebook increasingly looks like your Windows desktop?
There is a task bar at the bottom and quick links and IM on your left side.
Facebook as literally captured a few essential things that people always use and need:
1. Email – The inbox is great. No need to ask friends for their email. Just search their names.
2. IM – Same here, it's consolidated, so you don't need to ask people for IM. My FB IM already has more people than all the years of adding people on MSN/Gtalk.
3. Social News: Status updates, what're your friends doing, what are your friends reading, what pictures your friends upload. All nicely compiled for you. No wonder MSM is shivering because seriosuly it's more interesting to me to find out how my friends are doing than to be reading news of gloomy things happening.
So don't you think it's really a "portal 2.0" for the long tail?
