Filed under Uncategorized | Comment (0)Singapore: A Model of Judgment for the United States? – Tom Davenport – HarvardBusiness.org
Every time I visit, it has struck me as a country with good judgment. Singapore just celebrated its forth-fourth birthday as an independent country, and it deserves to congratulate itself (although it rarely engages in self-congratulation — another aspect of good judgment). In fact, I’d argue that in many ways Singapore is a great example for the United States.
Tom Davenport comments on the Singapore Governance model. Pretty balanced view.

Think you’ll never find a swamp in our city?
I found one about 15mins walk from my place. It’s really prehistoric looking and untouched. Very interesting as this is not a real forest area. This place is just 5 mins walk from alexandra hospital. totally untouched by our meticulous urban planners.Posted via email from Justin Lee’s posterous

It’s beautifully quaint isn’t it? A fee mins walk away from my home lies a verdant woods that’s untouched by development. No skyscrapers nearby. Great place for a photoshoot with all the old fixtures and overgrown pathways.

Here in Yiwu, which claims to be the site of the world’s biggest wholesale market, Taobao has started to change the look of Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College.
The school’s vice dean, Jia Shaohua, points out an area designated as a start-up site for students seeking to get rich. He points to students taking orders by computer, packaging products, sorting inventory and taking photos of the items for display online, then adds, “Around the school now, there is a whole Taobao industrial chain.”
Rocking story on the TaoBao ecommerce story… And its really interesting how the Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College is really being entrepreneurial. I guess it’s great to be in school right next to a commercial centre. Who needs jobs to be created in China? Entepreneurial spirit is what matters!
